It is evident that Ennio Zangheri’s works show something that is ancient yet, at the same time, completely new. Colours conjugate with fluid and communicative, yet implied, drawings. You can read a constant reference to classic art in them, but true-to-life is not binding, because experience and culture suggest clearly legible yet unprecedented images which belong to the category of freedom. His human figures assert themselves in the limelight of their canvas with sudden clarity and strong chromatic contrasts. Existence seems to gush into light and to identify with the strength of will, but, simultaneously, some dark bands or even some large underlying maelstroms in the dark give you the impression that at any time they may swallow up the miracle of those magniloquent colours, of such self-assertive yet undefined beautifully dazzling presences. |
